society history

Since 1928 the Midland Cycle & Motor Trades Golf Society has provided an opportunity for industry executives with a keen interest in golf to meet periodically throughout the year at some of the area’s finest golf courses. 

The Society was originally founded by the Dunlop Company’s Sir Edward Beharrell as a means of entertaining customers following the early boom of the cycle, motor cycle and car industries. As the society grew the meetings of the MC & MTGS became important business networking events and provided the opportunity to share market news and information in a relaxed informal setting.   

Over the years the society has developed its own identity and history and has attracted some of the industry’s most prominent and influential characters. We currently have four main meetings a year at fantastic locations such as Blackwell and Beau Desert Golf Clubs, along with an annual team event versus the MTGS at Tadmarton. Trophies and silverware in some cases pre-date the society itself and provide a competitive edge to the individual competitions. 

Members are also encouraged to regularly introduce guests and with the exception of Tadmarton the opportunity now exists throughout the year.
